An interesting phenomena has gained popularity, particularly in the United States. It involves individuals and groups who are convinced that their government is against them - and, apparently, all of its own citizens as well.?. Some of the people who embrace these ideas, in addition to their paranoia about the Trilateral Commission, Bilderbergers, and the United Nations, also include Freemasonry in their fears. Those fears are further compounded when they read comments of the religious zealots who are convinced that Freemasons are part of a "luciferian conspiracy" and involved with Biblical prophesies about the 'Mark of the Beast'.
One of the things we find most interesting is, though, is how many of these 'patriots' emphasize the virtues of the United States' "Founding Fathers", sometimes to the point of near deification (for convenience, certainly, but nevertheless....). They're vocal in their suggestions that these individuals be emulated yet they simultaneously attempt to discredit the Masonic organization which was so much a part of so many of their lives.
Recently we found a site of one such 'patriot' who also felt that one must be Catholic as well, a somewhat unique position since precious few of the 'founding fathers' was - using the vernacular of the day - a 'Papist'. This, though, points out the odd behavior of these so-called 'super-patriots'. He made this statement:
| "At this time, I am suggesting that all able bodied Christians of sound
mind and soul formerly <sic> join the Militias of the United States of America if you feel
called to do so. Do not do this if you have not put Jesus Christ & His Mother Mary,
and the Ten Commandments first and above all in your life. I would not join any Militia
that was not Christian nor amiable towards the Church that Jesus Christ founded. I know
this sounds crazy, but stop off at the library on your way home today, and pick up some
library books on the founding fathers. You'll see how they already included you able
bodied men in the Militias - you farmers, lawyers, bar owners, doctors, and garbage men

The ability of many self-styled "patriot" groups to recognize the important formative role played by Freemasonry in the lives of those who fought for the freedom of the United States in so many battles over the past 200 years borders on the ludicrous. Working first within the political systems of the day, it was only when alternatives ran out that some chose rebellion.
The Masonic 'founders' of the United States would be embarrassed and ashamed to see what is happening with these 'sunshine soldiers' today....
